There have been many sightings of the Spectre, but one is
very important. He kidnapped
Eris Lacroux, the Oenofile of the Chateau....
" <Chillon> As Lothar and Eris walked through the deserted Tenant's Hall, all the guests situated in the East Commons at the tables next door, they were unaware of the man in the rafters, watching their progress with a sinister smirk twisting the handsome features behind his skull mask. His usual emerald frock he substituted for blood red, and a long, embroidered cape hung from his shoulders, and off of the rafters, looking like a curtain hanging from the ceiling, and emblazoned with the words
Red Death!. Several smoky orbs, red in color, were grasped tightly in his left hand, while his right was on the hilt of a lethal looking sabre, slightly curved, double edged, and rather long, sheathed at his side. He crouched, looking uncomfortable, for several more seconds, before an idea occurred to him. His smirk becoming a dark sneer and he eyed a cord running close to his head, a cord that held one of the fancy crystal chandeliers in place. Quickly, in a flash of a silver rapier, he slashed the cord, and the chandelier swayed dangerously before sailing across the room, landing with a reverberating
CRASH several meters from the couple. The spectre knew this diversion would not cause any damage or fire, but would quickly bring all of the guests to the Tenant's Hall, even without the booming, thundering echo in the East Commons that sounded a moment later. The chandelier smoked slightly, the crystals in shards on the floor, and the spectre prepared to make his dramatic appearance.
<cari-chan> Lothar grabbed Eris's arm and pulled her back abruptly, away from the fallen chandelier, his own eyes searching the room for the source of the mischief suspiciously. "Stay back," he cautioned, hazel orbs roaming the Hall.
<Kouga6644> The moment Tai heard the sound, he let out a startled growl, his muzzle snapping up to the sound. Without another moment of hesitation he started forward, paws pounding on the floor. Having been over by the doors he was already in the Hall, and came to a stop by the chandelier. He spoke, quickly compared to his usual meter, to Lothar and Eris, "Master and Mistress, are you two alright? What happened?" he looked around quickly, alarmed that something had gotten past his senses. Suspicious, he sniffed the air, searching for telltale signs of the intruder. Thankfully there hadn't been so many people in the Tenants Hall, and he just made out a familiar scent. Tai took several steps closer to Lothar and Eris protectively, scanning the room systematically
<chilipepa> Eris jumped as Lothar pulled her back, falling into his embrace. Immediately, without thinking twice, the woman reached for her guns, unfortunately there weren’t there. She scanned the ceiling nervously, not even noticing Tai approach them.
Was that the Spectre? Please, no… The woman could feel him…somewhere…
hiding…
<vividwings> Maria jumped out of her seat at the sound, her eyes going to the fallen chandelier immediately. She quickly glanced around the room to see if anyone was hurt, then proceeded to look for the cause of the crash. She looked at the rafters, and saw something out of the corner of her eye, but it was gone when she looked once more.
<MadGooseParade> Kiara got to her feet the instant the crash resounded, instinctively grabbing the bird, her right hand under him and her left over. “What was that?” She exclaimed, however in a more inquisitive voice than frightened. She instinctively inched closer to Friedrich, her high heeled, yet still substantially shorter body, close to him.
<RavenOfBurden> The sounds of music and chatter faded behind him as Philip hurried faster and faster to his room, a thin layer of sweat forming over him. The colors of his waves waving between green blue and black and around again, sometimes a combination of the colors. He finally burst into his room and slammed the door, not sure why but knew it was a good idea that it be bolted. The second he turned back round from turning the lock he fell to his knees. Fear and anguish contorting his face.
What in Hell...? was all he thought before he bent over onto his hands mouth agape in shear pain, face reddening. He stared blankly at the ground, not knowing what to expect next, helpless to whatever it was that was happening since he couldn't move if he wanted to any how. His back contorted and wings, though not real, some ghostly image of them, began to unfold from his back, black like that of a raven, but the pitch black was off set by wounded portions and broken feathers. His eyes went wide with pain, barely able to breath, the marble at his neck flickering light in every direction. After a few minutes of this Philip managed to get control of his mouth and slowly stutter out words far from English, or any modern language. After ten had passed his lips the images of wings began to fade. He kept speaking until they finally disappeared altogether and he collapsed on the floor. He had dripped sweat onto the floor and his silk shirt was almost soaked. But his green coat drank up the salty wetness, drying him as he lay limp on the cool floor. A few more minutes and he slowly rose, first sliding and then leaning against the bed frame before finally getting enough composure to stand. He went to the bathroom, rinsed his face, using his coat to dry himself. Checked the mirror to make sure nothing noticeable had changed in or on him. His eyes were their usual green, everything else seemed fine.
What the hell was that... he wondered, and decided to return to the ballroom so as not to rise suspicion, besides his food should be arriving soon and after that, whatever it was, he was hungry enough to eat something that Tai would consider a full meal.
<RavenOfBurden> Craw kept his eyes on the uniformed man as he sat at their table. Remaining unmoving from his place near Kiara, tilting his head at the newcomer. Ignoring the loud crash, seemingly the only one completely unbothered by the disturbance.
<SoldierToger> Friedrich didn’t offer an answer. Instead he glanced at the girl as she moved herself closer to him and then back towards the source of the sound. His brow was still creased with both concern and annoyance; could there never be a moment of silence in this world to enjoy the simple things? “I don’t know,” he did end up saying, at last and debated whether he should move to the Tenants hall to investigate or not…
<Chillon> The spectre watched the duo jump back with dark amusement, waiting for a few more people to rush into the room before making his debut. Just as the bear came in, he realized his endeavor would have to be handled carefully, and quickly. But he waited, until several more people came into the room, changing his position several times to avoid being spotted. Then he threw down one of the orbs in his hand, and it exploded in a haze of dense red smoke, making a pillar of the sickly sweet smelling mist, into which he jumped, unseen, thankful for the scent, which would surely throw off the bear. As the smoke slowly dissipated, he shot a dashing smirk at Eris, and took several steps forward, milking their surprise for all it was worth. His rapier was unsheathed with a flourish, glinting and looking sinister indeed. His cloak billowed out before settling gracefully behind him. The haze hung in the air for several seconds. The smell was strong enough to fill the whole castle, and the smoke drifted over the floor and away from the crimson-clad spectre. Then he spoke, voice reverberating, silky and deep, and managing to bounce around the whole room, creating exactly the intimidating effect his entrance called for. "Why so silent, good messieurs? Did you think that I had
left you for good? Did you miss me, birthday girl? I have come to
liven up your night!"
<MadGooseParade> Kiara heard the silky voice booming from the hall. She placed the bird on her shoulder and marched to the tenant’s hall, slightly curious and a shade annoyed that she could not experience a ball as it was meant to be… this degree of selfishness disgusted her. “Let’s see what this is all about.” Her tone was collected but a pinch annoyed, she said it more to herself than to anyone directly. She walked quickly, her emerald dress billowing behind, leaving the faint smell of lavender.
<RavenOfBurden> Philip came to the entrance just as the smoke was clearing, he saw Tai tensing, he saw all sorts of people moving about, something was wrong, he felt it, damnit why did, whatever had happened, have ot happen and pull him from the room. He stepped in and stood beside Tai, hoping he would have some idea of what to do next. Meanwhile Craw had turned at the surge of smoke and watched the strange figure approach the lady of the castle.
<Kouga6644> Tai growled again. He couldn't touch the Spectre when he was up there...he could throw something, but now there were too many people in the room. As he thought, trying to plan an action, the red smoke billowed out, and he shook his head wildly as his sense of smell was thrown out of whack. He let out an irritated snort, and finally cleared his head as the smoke started to clear. While the Spectre did indeed have the intimidating effect of surprise, Tai had a few things of his own. He knew that if the Spectre was given half a chance to do something, anything, he would seize it. So without waiting for any call form Lothar or Eris, Tai stepped forward, throwing himself up on his back paws and swiftly tossing his mask aside with a paw, the bone skittering to the side. He let out a loud growl, just below a roar, his lips curling upwards to reveal rows of deadly ivory teeth, dark eyes flashing as he towered over everyone else in the room. His suit bulged slightly as his muscles pulsed in anticipation, and he shifted his feet so his weight was distributed evenly on his stocky and powerful legs, and he stepped to position himself between Eris and the Spectre, and simply looked at the Spectre with a deadly Tae'dae glare, speaking of his animal like power that pulsed behind blue eyes.
<chilipepa> The Frenchman rushed towards the Ballroom immediately after he had heard the crash and stopped just in front of the door as he heard a strong male voice echo through the ballroom. As Viktor stepped further into the room, his eyes darted to Eris and Lothar….
Eris’ heart dropped as the Spectre shot her a look. Without thinking, as if in a trance, the woman took a step closer, her gray-eyes fixed on him. Her mind became cloudy and hazy at the same time. The woman's heartbeat quickened. Her breathing patteren slowed.
<RavenOfBurden> Philip watched Tai move, and took a mental note of Craw's position on Kiara's shoulder, but put that in the back of his mind as Tai stood up and flung his mask aside.
Yep something definetly wasn't right here he thought sarcastically to himself. He took up Tai's former position by the door and watched the figure Tai was standing in front of, hoping he could take away one possible exit for whoever had mal-intent on their mind.
<SoldierToger> The ex-soldier had followed Kiki in an equal state of annoyance, not acknowledging the voice as he was never one fond of theatrics. Arriving behind the girl, he moved passed with fluid strides till he was near the forefront of the gathered crowd and gave this “spectre” a skeptical—annoyed—once over. He could feel some primordial blood rise in his veins, but kept them at sustainable levels while he waited for someone with authority to deal with the red-clad idiot… He didn’t like being fed like a dog and in small retribution wouldn’t jump at any chance to ‘offer his services’…
<vividwings> Maria coughed, the smell making it hard to breathe. After a few moments she recovered enough to look up and see the spectre standing before Eris. "A ghost..?" She mumbled, following Friedrich towards the spectre. She'd read that ghosts couldn't interact with solid objects like! Oh well, another fairy tale about ghosts proven wrong, she thought.
<Kouga6644> Tobe, meanwhile, slid down a wall to the floor and casually walked around the dining hall, since everyone was elsewhere. He walked around, picking up a roll here, taking a sip of wine there. He had his fill in moments, and made himself at home to some left over items that some of the guests had left behind in their rush. His eyes were hidden beneath his feathered wide brimmed hat, and he continued to sweep the Hall while he had the chance, and made a note to vanish again before the others arrived back here.
<MadGooseParade> Kiara crossed her arms and watched the antics of the Spectre. As Eris inched closer she nearly felt no remorse… sure she had given her a job but only in the presence of her beloved Lothar… and it
might have been her birthday party sure, but they had known about this Spectre for weeks now! That didn’t look like any Spectre she’d ever heard of… okay maybe she felt a little bad for Eris… The sensation of crystal under her shoes was nice however…
<Chillon> The spectre, sensing he had gained everyone's attention, let the smirk twist the bottom of his face that was visible again. Advancing slowly, his rapier trained on the small crowd, his voice offered the entertainment he thought had been so lacking at the ball. He fixed his gaze on each member of the crowd in turn, a predatory gleam in his flaming yellow eyes. "Don't concern yourself with matters which involve your superiors so," he began in a sing-song voice, the echo ever-present, addressing the bear with his sabre trained upon him, yet swaggering in a different direction. "As for you, my jade-eyed pretty," he turned to Kiki, "mourning dress you should forego -" he turned to Philip, crazed grin still as wide as ever, "Wolves and crows and wings have no place in my castle," he stepped back rather quickly this time, speech getting swifter, insolent air swelling, "And a color for an innocent young maiden? I think not!" he snarled at Maria, still sneering, before training his sabre on Friedrich, "What a high air you bring in here, lowly German among Swiss! Then again, with such a manager," he stood opposite Lothar, now glaring outright, "who else would come to my prison?" He strode to Viktor, sabre still on the soldier, voice ringing mockingly, "What a costume, my Don Juan, but your fair cousin," he finally turned to Eris, "outdoes us all..." his voice softened, for a moment. "Now we toast our guest of honor, and I bid you all,
bon nuit!" He stood back to admire the looks of rage on the others' faces, raising his hands as if to toast them, insolent gaze still resting on Eris.
<SoldierToger> For the most part, Friedrich just didn’t understand. Was there a point to this mad man’s tirade? Pointing his rapier at every other person and vomiting up some kind of insulting remark didn’t impress the ex-soldier who only slightly lifted his chin as the blade directed itself at him. He didn’t come across as particularly threatening to him; more like some crazed drunkard craving attention in theatrical rags. Or perhaps a war-torn experience had robbed the hybrid of his ability to be impressed by the over-done. Still, he kept himself to the side yet between the Spectre and Kiki and waited..
<chilipepa> Eris stood there, silent, still a meter away from Lothar. Her eyes watched the Spectre fixedly as he moved through the hall, mocking everyone. The woman was speechless, the words didn’t seem to come out of her mouth…With a compassionate look on her face, Eris took a few more steps towards the Spectre as their eyes locked.
<MadGooseParade> Kiara’s jades fell as he spoke to her… she was in mourning long enough! It was her time! Her lip curled slightly in annoyance but her eyes narrowed not only in anger but a little in sorrow… had she betrayed Marius by dismissing her inky cloth? She looked back up, hushing the angered bird muttering placations such as “it’s alright craw.” She still wanted to enjoy this ball for what it was… a ball! Her body still remained erect and proud but she let out a deep sigh, knowing that this night would not go forward as planned…
<Kouga6644>Tobe, meanwhile, was having a merry old time pillaging and plundering the belongings left behind. He tied off the second sack of jewels, coins, and idle belongings he had found, some dropped in haste, others left in jacket pockets and purses. He tied the two sacks around his waist, then grinned as his shifted his hat, "I truly do love balls.." he said as he took a sip of wine from a table, the one he had seen Fried and his companions at, "Thanks for the lot, Chateau von Chillon!" and with that he swiftly jumped up, using the table as a boost, and jumped up before vanishing on the spot with the slightest sound like air rushing through a window for a split second. Then Tobe appeared, wine glass still in hand, atop a rafter.
<RavenOfBurden> Philip's eyes went wide seemingly for no external reason, he raised his hands to around his mouth and roared "Tai watch yourself" simple and to the point.
<Chillon> The spectre tossed his rapier to the bear's feet, which seemed to catch him off gaurd. Then he looked at Eris, and his crazed sneer returned, full measure. This seemed to be what the spectre was waiting for, as he closed the distance between them in several short strides, moving faster than it looked possible in his long cloak. Throwing his arm up before anyone could interfere, he threw down the remainder of the red spheres, their sickly scent immediately filling the room and sending up volumes of smoke. In the confusion, he grabbed Eris by the sleeve, pulled her towards himself, forcefully took her other arm and with a flourish of his cloak...
disappeared. As if he had never been solid enough to grab the woman, the spectre dissipated into thin air with Eris before him, leaving behind a horrible sugary smell and a roomful of dense red haze. "
